This illo for "Enough" is an image for a childre's magazine article about the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. The portrayal of the warmth of family and having "plenty" made me think of our American celebration of Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

What is more annoying to a parent than lights being left on. An illustration for Stories for Children demonstrates papa put out by children leaving lights on. His solution has been to remove all light bulbs leaving this little family to fend for themselves in the dark.

This is an unusual watercolor. My sister had a studio in a former funeral home. This was the stairway that led to the living quarters of the family and always had a flood of light on the back walls. A tremendous contrast to the stairway (hidden behind the doorway) that led to the basement work area.) It's a very "1920's building which has since been remodeled to house offices. This particular stairway remained untouched by all the updates, and I have been truly fascinated by it.

I can't tell if my rendition of this 1920 something home or the home itself evokes the memory. I never lived there but have been fascinated for as long as i can remember by this stucco home setting as it does today on a hillside. It represents to me a simpler time I would have loved to visit. I decided to go with design quality only and create this image in Photoshop. At first I was going to do a facial image on the moon and decided it would distract from the buildings and the mysterious "goings on" in the lighted rooms. I also decided to have a limited palette to a bit of drama. Enjoy.
